Monthly Favorites: July 2020
Can you believe we’ve already made it to August?! This year has felt different in so many ways, but to me it definitely feels like time is flying by quicker than usual. Today on the blog, I’ve got another roundup of all my favorite things from the previous month. I’m sharing the meals I’ve been loving, what I’ve been watching and what I’ve been listening to lately.
July Monthly Favorites:
Food
Instant Pot Chicken Taco Bowls
I’ve been cooking with my Instant Pot more and more lately. I love how simple it is to use, and most recipes I love just require me to dump everything in and shred the chicken once it’s done (like this recipe). I was a big fan of this Instant Pot Chicken Taco Bowl recipe and will probably start using it to meal prep since it makes so many servings and I liked it enough to eat multiple days in a row!
Buffalo Chicken Sliders / Sweet Potatoes
My boyfriend and I have been loving this Instant Pot recipe for Buffalo Chicken Sliders. It has easily become one of our favorite meals! I recently started using the same recipe for the chicken, but instead of making sliders, I decided to use the chicken to make buffalo chicken loaded sweet potatoes. They turned out so good!
Entertainment
Pokémon Journeys
My boyfriend and I consider ourselves pretty big Pokémon fans. We still play Pokémon Go - I did a whole blog post on my Pokémon Go Fest experience from last year. We’ve seen most of the movies, and we’re slowly making our way through the original series. Pokémon Journeys was released on Netflix in June, and we recently decided to give it a try. It’s very different from the original series, so there are things we do and don’t like about it. But what we really like is how fast paced this series is because it keeps it more interesting. There are only 12 episodes out so far and we blew through them in a couple days. We definitely prefer the drawing style of the original series better, but content wise, we really like what we’ve seen from Pokémon Journeys so far!
Crash Test Live
Would this be one of my Monthly Favorites lists if I didn’t mention All Time Low at least once? Alex and Jack from ATL formerly had a podcast called Full Frontal. Unfortunately, I never got to listen to it, but I am happy that they have created a new and improved podcast called Crash Test Live. They film it live on Twitch so you can tune in and watch, or you can watch or listen on YouTube or Spotify once it’s uploaded. They pretty much have different funny segments - Are You Smarter Than Jack, Fun Facts, Jack’s Snacks and so many more. You definitely don’t have to be a fan of the band to be able to enjoy it. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something funny and light. For fans it’s also a plus that their drummer, Rian, works behind the scenes and gets to join the show each episode (P.s. Please bring Zack on more, we miss him).
Music
Folklore
First off, can we just take a moment to talk about how I still haven’t fully gotten to enjoy Lover and now Taylor Swift drops Folklore?! It still feels like she dropped Lover not too long ago and now we have a whole new album to listen to. If you’ve heard the new album, then I’m sure no explanation is needed - this album was exactly what we all needed in 2020. I’ve only listened a couple times so far, but Taylor is a lyrical genius and I already know this is going to be the perfect album to play in the fall while cozied up in a cardigan - where are all my fall people at?!
Honestly, there were so many good music releases in July, and I haven’t even been able to give them all a listen yet. I did listen to Broadside’s new album Into the Raging Sea and “Nights Alone” and “Heavenly” are two of my favorites on the album so far. Broadside is one of those pop punk bands that I pretty much love everything they release. If you haven’t given them a listen yet, I highly recommend you do!
As always, I’ve updated my ‘2020’ playlist with all of my current favorites. Let me know what you think!
