How I got my First 1,000 Monthly Page Views
My blogging journey has been a rocky one, and I’m still a newbie, but my blog has come a long way since I first started. To give you a little context, I created my blog in 2018. I blogged for three months before giving up. I started blogging again last year, and I made it about six months in before falling off. I honestly think this is the year I’m going to stick with it (hopefully throwing that out into the universe will help me manifest it). Since starting my blog back up in January, I hit my first 1,000 monthly page views. In this blog post, I’m telling you exactly how I went from 200 average monthly page views to 1,000.
As I mentioned, I average about 200 page views per month, but this past month I hit my first 1,000 page views and I couldn’t be more excited! I know this is a small milestone for some bloggers, but this was a major accomplishment for me, especially after taking a long blogging break. Currently, I’m publishing about one blog post per week. If I were to post more frequently, then it should be even easier to increase my blog views. The more content you create and put out there, the more opportunities for your content to be seen.
Whether you’re just getting started blogging, wanting to create a blog or are just genuinely curious how I did it, here are the strategies I used to get more blog traffic and increase my page views.
Share Content Everywhere
This may be an obvious tip, but it is crucial for gaining blog traffic. I currently share my blog posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Facebook and Twitter are probably my highest traffic sources for my blog. I know Pinterest is a huge tool for many bloggers, but I just haven’t seen much engagement there yet. I also share my blog posts on a website called BlogLovin’.
I also started sharing my own content within my blog posts. I will link a previous blog post as often as I can. I also started adding a “Posts You May Like” section at the bottom of each blog post that has a carousel of related blog posts.
Engage with Others
Twitter and Facebook are also good tools to help you find and engage with other bloggers. I joined some blogger groups on Facebook where they post daily threads that allow you to share your blog post in exchange for checking out some other blog posts. There are also blog post threads on Twitter that function the same way. I’ve noticed that there are some nice blogger communities online and most people will reciprocate any comments or page views on your blog.
Build Backlinks
This step was very important for my blog traffic, and may be the number one thing that skyrocketed my monthly page views. A backlink is a link back to your website from another website. When first starting out, it may be difficult to find ways to get backlinks. This is another reason why finding and engaging with other bloggers is important, because it can lead to opportunities to get your blog linked to someone else’s blog.
Here’s an example of a back link: I was inspired by Mackenzie Horan’s 101 Things in 1001 Days list, so I created my own list. I sent her my list and she linked it to her page. I’ve received a pretty consistent stream of blog views from her website ever since!
There are so many ways out there to get a backlink, whether it is collaborating with another blogger or reaching out to other bloggers who may be interested in sharing your blog on their website. Be sure to look out for any opportunities to submit your blog to be featured on other websites. I also signed up to be a featured member on my favorite Youtuber’s website and I was selected! You never know what opportunities there may be until you start looking for them!
SEO
I’m no SEO expert, but I have noticed that the blog posts that I put more effort into creating keywords for and better headlines show a much better return on blog views. I get a little bit of organic traffic from Google, but I know I have so much room for improvement!
Overall, I’m very proud of this milestone and I hope to only make improvements from here on out. My next steps are to work on creating better pins on Pinterest, creating an email list and creating better keywords and headlines for better SEO.
I hope this post was informative for those just getting started with blogging. If you’re seeing low numbers, don’t get discouraged! I’ve been right there with you. Just know it will take time to see a big difference in page views, so don’t give up.
What are your plans for increasing your blog’s monthly page views?
Until next time,
Here are all the things I’m hoping to accomplish this January.
